Easy Fish Pie

Now this is not one of Vana's amazing recipes from Crete but it is easy and a family favourite. In fact it is perfect for any type of fish fillet and if you happen to have some fillets in the freezer and not sure what to do with them then this is the answer! No cooking skills required!

  • 500g Fish Fillets (Hoki, Trevally, Red Cod, Ling, Pearl, Tarakihi, Gurnard, Alfonsino, Warehou - ask us in store)
  • Homemade cheese sauce or cheat with 1 or 2  Hollondaise Sachets
  • Fresh herbs from the garden - parsley, chives, thyme (or dried only)
  • Dried herbs from the pantry
  • 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs
  • Olive Oil
  • 3 Large Potatoes, hard boiled
  • Milk & butter
  • Cheese, grated
  • Salt & Pepper

  1. Boil and mash the potatoes with milk and butter.
  2. In a large pot pour enough water to cover the bottom and some oil too if preferred.
  3. Place fillets flat in the pot with a sprinkling of fresh thyme or dried herbs (I add Moroccan herb mix and fresh thyme) and cover with a lid.
  4. Cook on a medium heat for 10 or so minutes - move if some bits aren't cooking (watch you don't overcook the fish). Remove from heat.
  5. Place the fish in a baking dish, add salt and pepper, and scatter chopped parsley over and then pour the sauce over this.
  6. Slice the eggs and lay over the sauce.
  7. Then lay over the mashed potato.
  8. Cover with the grated Cheese.
  9. Heat in oven till cheese is melted and dish warmed through. Easy!
